Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish thought his side produced one of their best displays of the season as they held local rivals Aston Villa to a goalless draw.

The Blues have had a poor recent record against Villa, losing their previous six derby matches, but McLeish thought that with a little more luck they could have made the short journey back to St Andrew's with all three points.

The former Rangers and Scotland boss said after the Villa Park stalemate:"At last a crumb of comfort but I thought it was a well-deserved point.

"We were exceptional organisation-wise, the defenders were on top of their game, we did well in midfield and started to look quite dangerous when (Alex) Hleb moved up a gear.

"I thought we had probably the best chances of the entire match. Villa had a near miss near the end, but it's one of our best performances of the season.

"There was a great run in the channel by Cameron Jerome but he just had to calm down a little bit.

"If he'd passed it earlier with that bit of relaxation that he's trying to improve on, he'd have played big (Nikola) Zigic in for an easy tap-in."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
